Around fifty automobiles have been marked with what appears to be human blood in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they announced in a release.
Police report they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a individual noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued liquid.
The substance had been placed in the pattern of a swastika, they stated.
Law enforcement then found numerous other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws prohibiting the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials say early analysis show the substance was most likely human blood.
"Currently there is no lead as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they commented.
Municipal representatives announced they were working "to resolve the case" and have appealed to the residents for details.
A senior official said the vandalism made him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he posted on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
